the greatest female blues singer of all time. whenever i got the blues i just listen to bessie moan and i swear its like all my troubles go out the window. when i listen 2 her there is no one else on earth, just me and bessie, thats how personal her music is to me

Bessie Smith’s voice was so powerful she out sings a whole choir. She was the Patti Le Belle of her time. Take the microphone away and you can still hear her in the back of the auditorium

i forget the name of the hip hop artist that did a cover of this song, but its one of the theme songs for kill bill2, i was pretty surprised when i saw this but i guess i shouldn’t be cause if you havnt noticed there’s a shitload of artists whove copied off blues from pre WWII
